Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all families who took the time to complete the recent Parent Feedback Survey. Your insights and reflections are invaluable in shaping the future of Mother Teresa Catholic College and ensuring we continue to grow as a faith-filled, inclusive, and dynamic learning community.

I am pleased to share some of the key themes that emerged from your feedback:

Celebrating Our Catholic Identity
Parents appreciate the strong commitment to Catholic values, particularly through charitable initiatives and the culture of kindness and inclusivity that is embedded in daily school life. There is a shared desire to continue strengthening opportunities for students and families to engage with the College’s Catholic mission.

Parental Engagement and Involvement
Many parents feel engaged through College events, parent-teacher meetings, and volunteering opportunities. Some expressed a desire for more structured ways to be involved, including parent-child learning experiences, additional social events, and clearer pathways for volunteering.

School-Community Partnerships
A strong interest was highlighted in building partnerships with industries, universities, and mental health organisations to support student learning, career pathways, and well-being. Parents also see value in expanding sports and extracurricular partnerships.

Future Vision and Priorities for Growth
Looking ahead, families want to see continued improvements in academic excellence, enhanced co-curricular opportunities, and investment in school facilities. Parents also emphasised the importance of student engagement, teacher retention, and fostering a strong community spirit.

Additional Feedback and Considerations
Some key areas for further discussion include traffic and parking solutions, maintaining high expectations for student behaviour, and ensuring the College’s ongoing growth aligns with the needs of our families.

I appreciate your valuable feedback and will use these insights to guide our strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.

Thank you for your partnership with Mother Teresa Catholic College.

Mr. Jay Sutton

Autumn Surprise: Kindergarten’s Baby Chicks Hatch Just in Time for Easter!

Autumn is a season of change, and what better way to celebrate than with the hatching of baby chicks in our kindergarten classroom? Our young students have had the joy of witnessing the magical moment when fluffy little chicks break free from their shells. It has been an exciting and heartwarming experience, filled with wonder, learning, and a few happy chirps!

As part of their curriculum, our kindergarteners have been carefully observing the eggs over the past few weeks, learning about the life cycle of a chicken. With patience and eager anticipation, they counted down the days until hatching. When the first tiny cracks appeared, the classroom was abuzz with excitement. Now, with the chicks finally here, students are experiencing firsthand the responsibility and care that come with nurturing new life.

Watching the life cycle of a chicken unfold before their eyes teaches children invaluable lessons. It fosters curiosity, patience, and empathy—important qualities that extend beyond the classroom. By caring for the chicks, students develop an understanding of responsibility and the importance of providing for living things.

Additionally, this hands-on learning opportunity ties in beautifully with Easter, a holiday that celebrates new life, growth, and hope. Seeing the chicks hatch reinforces the themes of the season, making the experience even more meaningful for our young learners.

We are so proud of our kindergarteners for their enthusiasm and gentle care for these tiny new arrivals.

Walking for Water: A Lenten Journey of Compassion

This Lent, the Junior School students at MTCC participated in a meaningful initiative to support communities in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific by raising awareness about the importance of clean, safe water. Their efforts contributed to the global mission of providing accessible fresh water and empowering communities to break free from the cycle of poverty.

Throughout the Lenten season, students engaged in learning about children around the world who struggle to access clean drinking water. They discovered the significant impact this has on health and education, as many children walk between 2 to 7 kilometres daily to collect water—often before they even attend school.

To deepen their understanding and empathy, students participated in a ‘Walk for Water’ event, where they walked a designated course around the College grounds. The younger students from Kindy to Pre-Primary completed a route within the Junior School grounds, while students from Years 1 to 6 extended their walk to include both the Junior and Senior School areas. This symbolic walk provided students with a firsthand experience of the daily challenges faced by so many children worldwide.

Parents were invited to join in this powerful demonstration of solidarity, and their presence added to the sense of community and shared purpose. It was an inspiring event that not only raised awareness but also fostered a sense of gratitude and responsibility among students.

Thank you to all who participated and supported this initiative. Through small steps, we can make a big difference in the lives of those in need.

Online donations are able to be completed via this link: https://fundraise.projectcompassion.org.au/o/mother-teresa-catholic-college-baldivis

Or money is able to be placed into the Project Compassion boxes in your classrooms. So far, we have raised $1216. Donations are being accepted all the way until the end of the term.

Year 3 Scientists Explore Changing States of Matter!

In Year 3, we have been diving into the fascinating world of science, learning all about how matter changes state when we adjust its temperature. We've explored the differences between solids, liquids, and gases and discovered how they can be transformed in different ways.

To bring our learning to life, we conducted some exciting experiments! From making pancakes to freezing icy poles, we observed firsthand how heat and cold can change the form of different materials. This week, we took our inquiry skills to the next level by designing our own experiments. Working in groups, we set out to prove how matter can shift from one state to another through hands-on investigations.

Well done to our Inquiry superstars for their curiosity, teamwork, and scientific thinking! Keep up the great work, Year 3!

Numero Club is Back for 2025!

Numero Club is open to all Year 3-6 students in 3 Kaya, so if you love numbers and enjoy a challenge, come along and join in the fun!

Junior School Swimming Carnival 2025: A Day to Remember!

The Junior School Swimming Carnival was a fantastic day filled with enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and a true celebration of our students' swimming abilities. The atmosphere was electric as students dived into the pool with determination, cheered on by their classmates, teachers, and the many supportive parents who joined us for the event.

From the first race to the final relay, students demonstrated incredible effort and teamwork, making the day a true success. Our staff and parent volunteers played an essential role in ensuring everything ran smoothly, and we extend our heartfelt thanks for their support and dedication.

Swimming is not just a sport but an essential life skill that promotes fitness, coordination, and confidence. Events like these provide an excellent opportunity for students to develop resilience, perseverance, and a love for physical activity. The competitive spirit was evident, but even more inspiring was the camaraderie and encouragement displayed by all involved.

A Message from the Head of School Year 3-6

Making a Splash at the Swimming Carnival!

What an amazing two weeks it has been! A huge congratulations to all the students in Years 3–6 for their enthusiasm, effort, and sportsmanship during our recent Swimming Carnival. It was fantastic to see so many students diving into the spirit of the day, cheering on their peers, and giving their best in every race.

One of my personal highlights was the much-anticipated teacher race at the end of the day. While I may not have claimed victory, I had THE BEST time in the pool! The joy and excitement were undeniable, and I couldn’t stop smiling. A heartfelt thank you to all the students who encouraged me and offered kind words of support—you truly embodied the Spirit of Jesus in your actions. Well done to everyone involved, and thank you for making this event such a wonderful celebration of community, courage, and fun!

Inspiring the Next Generation of Filmmakers

Last week, Mr. Goddard’s Year 11 and Year 12 Media Production and Analysis students had the exciting opportunity to attend Media Perspectives 2025 at Reading Cinemas Mandurah. This highly anticipated event, hosted by ATOMWA, showcased the top copyright-free Year 12 ATAR media productions from students across Western Australia in 2024.

With a sold-out audience, the screening was a celebration of creativity and technical excellence, providing invaluable insight into the high standards of student filmmaking. For our students, it was more than just a film screening—it was a source of inspiration that fueled their confidence and ignited new ideas for their own upcoming productions.

Seeing the work of their peers demonstrated the possibilities within media production, encouraging them to push their storytelling, editing, and cinematography skills to new heights. The experience reinforced the power of media as a platform for self-expression and innovation.

We extend our gratitude to ATOMWA for organising such an impactful event, offering students the chance to showcase their talent and inspire future filmmakers. With this newfound motivation, our students are excited to bring their creative visions to life in their own projects.

Celebrating the KIC 2025 Youth Art Awards and Exhibition

We are thrilled to share the highlights of the KIC 2025 Youth Art Awards and Exhibition, held at the Gary Holland Centre on Kent Street, Rockingham. The event, which took place on the 27th of March, was a resounding success, showcasing the incredible talent and creativity of our students.

Ten outstanding artworks were selected and exhibited from our College, representing a diverse range of mediums, including ceramic sculptures, paintings, mixed media, and linoprints. We are immensely proud of the eight students who participated, demonstrating their artistic skills and dedication.

Participating Students:

  • Isabelle M, Year 12

  • Rachel C, Year 11

  • Andrea S, Year 11

  • Padan M, Year 11

  • Tabitha W, Year 10

  • Eva D, Year 9

  • Bianca P, Year 9

  • Bella M, Year 9

The exhibition opened to an enthusiastic crowd, with over 300 guests in attendance. Visitors were captivated by the incredible creativity, skill, and dedication evident in each piece, making the event a true celebration of artistic expression.

For those who have yet to visit, the exhibition will continue to run from March 28 to April 11, and we warmly invite everyone to experience the talent of our young artists. Admission is free, and we encourage families, friends, and art lovers to come and support our students’ artistic endeavours.

A special congratulations to our award winners, including Bianca P. and Bella M., whose exceptional artistry has been recognised. Their achievements are a testament to their commitment and talent, and we celebrate their success with pride.

Christian Service Learning Team Makes Waves with the Disabled Surfers Association

The Christian Service Learning Team, led by Mr. Fassom, recently took 34 volunteer students to participate in an incredible event with the Disabled Surfers Association of Perth. This not-for-profit organisation is dedicated to providing people with varying disabilities the opportunity to enjoy a safe and happy surfing experience.

At a recent Year 8 assembly, Mr. Fassom shared a powerful reflection on his experience with the program and a photo taken during a previous excursion.

"The first time I saw the photo, I hated it. My gut was hanging out, my face twisted into some strange expression—I looked awful. I cringed and wished it had never been taken. But months later, I stumbled upon it again. This time, my eyes didn’t focus on myself but on the young person beside me. They were mid-laugh, their face shining with pure joy. I remembered that moment—the way they beamed as they caught their first wave, the excitement in their voice. Suddenly, the photo wasn’t grotesque. It was beautiful. Not because of how I looked, but because of what it captured: love, compassion, and the reason we do these events. Not for ourselves, but for them. And in their joy, I saw my own reflected back."

This heartfelt story encapsulates the true essence of service learning—putting others first, fostering connection, and experiencing the joy that comes from making a difference in someone else’s life. The students who participated in the event walked away with unforgettable memories, knowing they had contributed to something truly special.

A huge thank you to Jason Norris and Megan Henry for their invaluable support in making this event a success. Their dedication and efforts, alongside the student volunteers, helped create an uplifting and meaningful experience for all involved.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Disabled Surfers Association and witnessing more moments of joy, courage, and connection in the future.

Senior School Students Support Junior School Swimming Carnival

Last week, our senior school students studying a Certificate II in Sport and Recreation took an active role in fulfilling one of their core units by assisting with a recreational activity—the Junior School Swimming Carnival. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply their learning in a real-world setting while supporting our younger students in a day of fun and friendly competition.

Our students were kept busy as they took on key responsibilities, including serving as the official timekeepers for the swim trials. Additionally, they organised and ran the team-building activities for the wet sponge relays and paddleboard races, ensuring the event ran smoothly and was enjoyable for all participants.

The Certificate II in Sport and Recreation equips students with the skills and knowledge to effectively support sport and recreation programs. Throughout the course, students develop foundational skills necessary for customer-facing roles within the sport and community recreation industry. They gain competence in a variety of administrative tasks and functions while working within a team and under supervision, preparing them for future careers in this field.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication and enthusiasm in assisting with the Junior School Swimming Carnival. Their involvement not only enhanced the experience for the younger students but also provided them with valuable hands-on learning opportunities that will serve them well in their future studies and careers.
