Junior School: Growing Curiosity and Confidence
Years 3 to 6
At Mother Teresa Catholic College, our Junior School program is designed to nurture curiosity, develop independence, and foster a love for learning. From Years 3 to 6, students begin to take greater ownership of their learning journey, supported by a caring community that celebrates effort, creativity, and growth.
Learning Through Inquiry
In the Junior School, we embrace an inquiry-based learning approach that empowers students to ask big questions, explore real-world challenges, and discover what inspires them. Whether they’re investigating how our environment works, designing solutions to local issues, or diving deep into a passion project, students are encouraged to think critically, collaborate with peers, and develop their own voice as learners.
Through integrated inquiry units, students make connections across subjects, strengthening not only their academic skills but also their ability to reflect, question, and innovate. This approach helps spark new interests and encourages students to become confident, capable problem-solvers who are excited by the possibilities of the world around them.
Celebrating Catholic Identity
Faith remains at the heart of Junior School life. Students continue to grow in their understanding of Gospel values and Catholic traditions, exploring how they can live out kindness, justice, and compassion in their daily lives. Through prayer, liturgy, service opportunities, and classroom discussions, students are supported to deepen their spiritual awareness and sense of purpose.
Engaging Parents and Families
Parents are key partners in learning, and we offer many opportunities for families to be involved in the Junior School journey. From project showcases and learning expos to reading support, excursions, and community events, we love seeing families engaged in their children’s learning. We are also working to create more structured avenues for parent-child engagement and clearer communication around volunteering and participation.
Building Stronger Connections
We understand that learning extends beyond the confines of the classroom. We are expanding our partnerships with local industries, universities, and organisations to provide students with practical insights into the application of their learning. In the Junior School, this might look like STEM workshops, artist residencies, coding sessions, or working alongside local environmental and community groups.
A Vision for Growth
As students grow in confidence and capability, we are committed to providing rich and varied experiences to stretch their thinking and spark new passions. Our continued focus is on maintaining high expectations for learning and behaviour, strengthening well-being programs, and investing in spaces and resources that support future-focused education.
