Important Notices

Last Week it was National Careers Week! On Thursday the Year 10 cohort attended Perth’s largest and longest running careers, education, training and employment expo, welcoming over 10,000 visitors who are in search of their future. This is the only careers event in WA that brings together over 120 organisations. It attracts local and national universities, various vocational and professional training providers, industry associations and employers.

Our Year 10 students represented the College beautifully at this annual Career Expo held at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, engaging with professional organisations and industry specialists, and eagerly taking in all of the information as they considered their Future Pathways at the College and beyond. This excursion forms part of the Year 10 Careers Program, that also includes the opportunity for students to complete two weeks Workplace Learning prior to then making their senior secondary subject selection. We are so proud of how the students conducted themselves today. Their proactive and mature approach place them in good stead for making informed choices as they continue on their educational journey.

2025 Indonesian Tour

We are pleased to announce our upcoming 2025 Indonesian Tour. The dates are 26 September – 2 October 2025. The tour will be open for current Year 8 – 10 students (Year 9 – 11 in 2025). View the tour information and apply today!

Year 11and 12 Workplace Learning

With National Careers Week running from May 13 – 17, it was very fitting for our Year 12 VET (Vocational Education and Training) students to be out on work placement during this time.

For most of these students, spending time in the workplace alongside completion of their TAFE studies is mandatory to achieve their qualification. It also exposes students to real workplace conditions to develop competencies, make informed decisions and build networks with local employers. Employers commented on how good students were, actively participating, engaged and enthusiastic.

“Very happy with student, shocked with how good they are”

“Have loved having student, are very impressed with them”

KIC iWOMEN Graduation Night Monday 20 May 2024

Congratulations to our four Year 10 students, Katie Brearley, Kiera Farmer, Macey Healing and Tess Smith, who recently graduated from the iWOMEN project facilitated by KIC (Kwinana Industries Council). KIC is the primary industry association for the western trade coast.

On the night, students presented what they had done and learnt in the program, to their parent, caregivers and representatives from their schools and industry, before receiving their graduation certificates.

Workshops included team building activities, career pathways and goal setting, health and wellbeing, resumes and interview skills. There were also site tours to Tianqi Lithium, Altrad, Alcoa and Crushing Services International.

Participation in this program not only opens student’s eyes to possible job opportunities coming their way, it can also assist towards student achievement of their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). The IWOMEN program is now in its twelfth year and has celebrated 423 graduates completing the program. The KIC facilitators congratulated the current graduates for being part of this journey and couldn’t speak highly enough on how they engaged with the program and students from other local schools.

Tess Smith

‘I really enjoyed the KIC program. My favourite parts of it were going on all the site tours and seeing how many opportunities there are. It's a really great experience if you think you want to go into trades. I would recommend this to any year ten who is unsure of what they want to do’.

National Careers Week reminds us that career development is an important part of a student’s secondary school education. Through these programs students can gain insights and explore possibilities to make informed career decisions and steer them towards successful career paths. To all the students involved in the above programs, well done for being such wonderful ambassadors for the college and making the most of these opportunities!

Premiers Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program established in 2022 to:

  • encourage students to read more books

  • enjoy reading

  • improve literacy levels.

The mission is for students in Kindergarten to Year 10 to read 12 books over 4 months from 6 May to 6 September.

That’s right—just 12, students can read:

  • books

  • short stories

  • graphic novels

  • eBooks

  • talking books

  • audiobooks

  • poems

  • anything that sparks their interest and gets them reading.

At the end of the challenge, students who complete it will receive a special certificate signed by the Premier. Junior School students received a bookmark during their Library lessons this week to promote this fantastic initiative. Parents/carers can sign up using the following website https://www.premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au/the-challenge

On Wednesday 22nd May we celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime by reading the beautiful book by Aura Parker called ‘Bowerbird Blues’. The students from Yr 1 and Yr 4 were lucky enough to watch the live stream of Aura reading her book and telling some funny stories about Bowerbirds and their collection of all things blue! Yr 1 students then tried to find some blue objects on a page from the book while the PP and Yr 2 classes drew things that they treasure and keep close and put them on blue hearts for display in our Library.

Student Achievement

Jordan Manfield Y7 participated in today's SSWA Cross Country held at UWA Sports Park and placed 2/493 13yo boys. This gained him a place on the WA Cross Country State Team. The team will travel to VIC in August to compete.

Former Student Angus Norbury who graduated last year has achieved his childhood dream

Angus had his enlistment ceremony for recruit school for the Royal Australian Navy last week. A very emotional morning, with many tears shed by all. He left soon after for HMAS Cerberus in Victoria where he will spend the next 24 weeks.
