Ash Wednesday

Each year, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and is always 46 days before Easter Sunday. Lent is a 40-day season (not counting Sundays) marked by repentance, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration.

Ash Wednesday derives its name from the placing of palm ashes on the foreheads of worshippers. The ashes are a symbol of penance made sacramental by the blessing of the Church, and they help us develop a spirit of humility and sacrifice

This year, our Ash Wednesday mass looked a little different. Junior School students joined with our Parish community to partake in the mass and Secondary students received the blessed ashes in their House groups during the Pastoral Care Period.

Today also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.

Each class and Homeroom will have a box for donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion
