House Shirt Fridays
In an effort to boost House Spirit within the College, we are implementing House Shirt Fridays beginning from Week 1, Term 2. Each Friday, students will be permitted to wear their House Shirts, under the following conditions:
They must wear their full sports uniform with the house shirt.
If they do not have a house shirt, they are required to be in whatever uniform they would normally wear on a Friday. So, if a student does not have Physical Education or another class requiring their sports uniform, they must be in their full formal uniform.

Project Compassion - Fifth Week of Lent
(Week beginning Monday 27th March)
Project Compassion brings together Australian schools, parishes and supporters to raise funds for people in vulnerable communities across the world. This year, we introduced you to the story of four inspiring people whose lives have been transformed with your generous support: Laxmi, Tereesa, Priscilla and Thu.
Today, they are creating a better world for their families, their communities and for all future generations. Project Compassion is a demonstration of the faith, empathy and generosity of our supporters. It is the lifeblood of Caritas Australia – without it, we could not do the vital work we do. Thank you for helping transform lives today and for all future generations.

Year 11 River Cruise
Last Friday night, our Year 11 students were welcomed aboard the Crystal Swan for their Year 11 River Cruise. It was a fantastic night filled with great food, music and lots of dancing! We witnessed some incredible dance moves from students and staff alike. We were also lucky enough to have stunning views of the city skyline as we cruised up and down the Swan River.
It was wonderful to see our students enjoying themselves, letting loose and creating lasting memories with their friends. We hope you all had a night to remember!
Head over to our Facebook page for more photos.
Year 7 Camp
Our Year 7 students arrived at Swan Valley Adventure Centre on Monday, ahead of their three-day camp. Their camp was packed full of exciting activities, including archery, a flying fox, crate stack, high ropes, a commando course, canoeing, rafting, and even a slip 'n' slide! Students had a fantastic time and we hope they made some lasting memories with their friends.
Kindy Mud Play
On Wednesday 22 March, our Kindy students were visited by Educated By Nature for a Muddy Gully incursion. Our presenters, Steph and Isaac, were engaging and encouraging as we had a sensory experience to remember!
Students had the chance to create sensory mud pies with scented herbs and plants from our school garden. They created sculptures using mud clay, gum nuts, leaves and sticks - there were dinosaurs, people and lots of animals made. They played their own imaginary games using different scents and textures at the mud kitchen. They squelched mud in their toes as they spread it across the mat to make a slippery muddy puddle. They mixed small bowls of mud with different coloured ochre to paint on their face and bodies (and on each others!).
At the end of the session they even got to have a muddy slip and slide! The smiles were from ear to ear and we thank Steph and Isaac for a wonderful experience.
International Day
As a part of their International Day celebrations on Monday 20 March, King’s College International School in Bangkok Thailand invited selected Year 10 students from Mother Teresa Catholic College to a virtual conference, held in the Learning Hub.
There were some awkward moments at the beginning where both groups of students appeared shy and intimidated, but once the sugar from an assortment of Thai snacks began to kick in, the conversation fairly rollicked along. Topics of conversation included the size of Australian spiders, kangaroo boxing, COVID-19, how to perform the traditional greeting of Thailand (wai), and the differences in religious beliefs.
Interestingly, when the birthplace of parents was considered, there was a greater spread of nationalities amongst the small number of students in our room than in the Bangkok classroom. So what do our students have in common with their international counterparts? It seems that future relations can be built on the solid bedrock of K-Pop, Fortnite and football.
This was a wonderful opportunity! We are very proud of our student ambassadors and our diverse, multicultural College environment.
The Arts News
The Tempest
Our Senior School production of The Tempest took centre stage on Wednesday and Thursday night, captivating audiences with its stunning visuals and powerful performances. Our talented students brought Shakespeare's classic tale of magic and betrayal to life, taking the audience on a thrilling journey through the enchanted world of The Tempest (with a quirky Australian twist!).
Our students and staff poured their hearts and souls into every aspect of the production, from the intricate set design to the striking costumes and makeup. It was truly inspiring to see our young performers and crew members bring their talents to the forefront.
We managed to dodge our own TEMPEST, with the weather holding off so we could enjoy two fantastic nights of entertainment! The two-night event was a huge success, and we would like to thank our community for joining us for this unforgettable event and for supporting creative arts at the College.
Sports & Outdoor Education News
Year 11 ODE Camp
Last week, our Year 11 General Outdoor Education (ODE) students embarked on their Unit 1 Expedition Camp. The camp started with a steep walk from Gooseberry Hill towards Stathams Quarry, giving the group spectacular views of the Darling Scarp and the Perth CBD. At Stathams Quarry, they met with Mandurah Indoor Climbing Centre instructors who helped them abseil and climb a 27 metre cliff face! After this, they hiked a further 4km around the old Zig Zag Railway line back to the top of the hill where they first started.
Then it was on to Lake Leschenaultia, where they quickly set up camp and swam in the lake to cool off. As the sun started to set, they cooked dinner and did some work on their assessment journals. In the morning, they got into pairs and had a crack at completing the 20 control point orienteering course around the lake. The most points collected was 13 by the winning pair! Soon after, they packed up and drove back to the College, grateful for the experience and what they learnt about themselves, others and nature. Well done Year 11s!
Peel Region Basketball Carnival
Yesterday, teams of Year 7 & 8 students competed in the Peel Region Basketball Carnival. Students brought their best basketball to the court and played their hearts out!
Our final placements were:
A Team - Runner Up Champions
B Team - 3rd Place
Girls Team - 3rd Place
All teams only lost one game each the entire day! Our players are very talented and it was incredible to watch them play together. Their sportsmanship was astounding and we are very proud of them all.
A big shout out to our Year 11 student coaches: Madison Stennett, Duop Kutin and James Hewlett. Year 9 student Archie Deacon also came along and refereed 9 games straight, without complaint. Excellent job team!
RugbyWA Coaching Clinic
On Tuesday 21 March, our Year 9 Physical Education students participated in a Rugby coaching clinic presented by RugbyWA. They had the privilege of being coached by former State Rugby player, Nephi Baker. Students learned passing and tackling skills which proved to be more difficult than it looked. Thank you to Nephi and RugbyWA for running this fantastic coaching session and sharing your expertise with our students. We hope to welcome you back soon to further develop our student's Rugby skills!

Surfing for the Disabled
As part of our Christian Service Learning (CSL) program, a group of staff and students volunteered with the Disabled Surfers Association WA Perth at one of their 'Let's Go Surfing' days on Saturday 25 March 2023. They spent the morning helping people with disabilities catch waves and have a blast in the ocean. It was amazing to see the joy on their faces and the sense of accomplishment they felt.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community and make a real difference in people's lives. Thank you to DSA for organising such an inspiring event. We look forward to volunteering again next season!
