2022 Book Week

Yesterday was our dress up day for all students and staff in celebration of Book Week 2022. The College was buzzing with excitement and fantastic costumes! Our Junior School held their much-loved annual Book Week Parade where all students had the chance to show off their amazing costumes. We were absolutely blown away by the level of creativity and amount of work put into these costumes by students (and their parents). Thank you to everyone for joining our Book Week celebrations!
Don't forget to drop in to the Library to borrow some books.

Head over to our Facebook page for more photos

Forgot about Dr. Seuss

We bet you've never heard Dr. Seuss like this! Year 3 teacher Mr. Jones has an annual Book Week tradition of attempting to bust a rhyme by reading a book to a hip-hop beat. This year he went with Dr. Seuss' 'One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish' with the backing track 'Forgot About Dre' by Dr. Dre. This is certainly a highlight of the year for all staff and students.
We're not sure who has more fun; the students or Mr. Jones... we'll let you decide!

The Wizard of Oz

Congratulations to the cast and crew of our 2022 College Production of The Wizard of Oz, which celebrated its final performance last Saturday evening. The adaption was an amalgamation of a full year’s dedication and work from students involved in multiple co-curricular programmes around the College. We are so proud of the entire cast for putting on such an amazing performance. Students showcased their talents both on stage and behind the scenes. A special thanks to our backstage crew, supporting staff, ushers, and more!

Read some of the reviews below:

”On the weekend I had the privilege of taking my Mother and my 2 young daughters (aged 6 and 4) to the Mother Teresa Catholic College production of the Wizard of Oz. I had booked my tickets months ago whilst on the MANPAC website without realising it was a school production and all I can say is… WOW..... what an amazing show. I cannot believe how professional this whole entire production was.”

Skye Morcombe

“My wife and I  attended the performance of "Wizard of Oz "  last Friday night and were amazed with the outstanding performance from the whole cast and production team. We have no connection with the school as we have recently moved over from NSW  to retire.  We purchased tickets online when we saw the show advertised by Manpac. Please pass on our congratulations to all concerned with the show, especially the students. You, as a school should be proud of them, and we can't wait for the next production.”

Colin and Cheryl Badrock

“Congratulations to the students, staff, costume makers, set designers and all others involved in your production of Wizard of Oz it was a magnificent enjoyable and most entertaining show. Thank you to all.”

Junior School Inter-House Athletics Carnival

This week, we held our Junior School Inter-house Athletics Carnival over two days, Thursday 25 and Friday 26 August. Our Pre-primary to Year 2 students participated on Thursday and our Year 3 to Year 6 students participated on Friday. After the previously planned carnival had to be postponed due to inclement weather, we were so glad to have perfect sunny weather on both rescheduled days!
All students gave it their all in races, relays, team games and other athletic events. Students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and encouragement for their peers. Thank you to the huge number of parents and supporters who cheered from the sidelines. A fantastic day had by all!

Congratulations to KAAL, who were the winners of the 2022 Junior School Inter-house Athletics Carnival!

ACC Senior Boys Basketball

On Tuesday August 23, the Mother Teresa Senior Boys basketball team bussed out to Willetton to take on the best of the ACC schools. The team’s prospects were cruelled by the withdrawal of three key playmakers, but nonetheless, the boys were confident of a strong showing.

Our first game was against St Norbert’s College, a basketball specialist school featuring a number of state representatives. Their highly organised defence placed great pressure on our ball movement and it took the special talents of the whirling dervish Bodhi Cole to break the press and put points on the board. Jermaine Burgoyne - Autagavaia began to have an influence at the defensive end and Dylan McCormack regularly bullocked his way to the hoop, but it wasn’t enough to overcome some outstanding fast break basketball and polished finishing from beyond the arc.

Kolbe started strongly in the second game, using their size and weight advantage to dominate the key way, however a three point bomb from Duop Kutin started things up for MTCC. With Noah Roberts and Andrew Togba rapidly following suit from the outside, the game tightened up. Tommaso Bortot led the way with his effort and hustle, continually disrupting the opposition ball movement and chasing offensive rebounds. Jermaine and Andrew redoubled the defensive pressure as the buzzer loomed large, and ultimately we were unable to get our noses in front.

An exhibition game against CBC was followed by a match up against Carey. Our boys gelled in this fixture, with Cole scything to the hoop at will and Togba’s baseline moves leaving befuddled opponents in his wake. Jermaine hit the scoreboard regularly, and Roberts was dominant at the post. It was a complete team performance.

As it turns out, the grand final was played between Kolbe and St Norbert’s, indicating that the draw, along with player availability, did no favours for our prospects. It should also be noted that other teams were comprised of Year 11 and 12 students. The boys showed great resilience and outstanding sportsmanship, and enough skill to suggest that, come next year, MTCC is well positioned to move into the top echelon of metropolitan schools.
