Events

First Holy Communion

Last weekend our College community joined together at Mother Teresa Parish Baldivis to celebrate students taking part in the Sacrament of Eucharist.
Congratulations to the 48 students who received their first Holy Communion in our Parish Community. It was fantastic to witness this momentous occasion and we wish our students all the best on their faith journeys!

Eucharist Retreat

As told by our students in Year 4:

"On Tuesday 14th June, we had our Eucharist Retreat Day. We started our day with Mass in the Church with Father Arulraj and then we moved to the Undercover Area where we met the leaders from 24:7 Youth Ministry who were running the day.

We split up in to six groups and worked on activities that taught us more about the Eucharist. One of the activities was talking about the different ways we can pray using the acronym ‘ALTAR’- which stands for Adore, Love, Thanks, Ask, Resolve. After lunch, we participated in a re-enactment of the Last Supper, where the members of the Youth Ministry shared with us the words and actions of Jesus at the Last Supper. We enjoyed spending our day learning more about the Sacrament of Eucharist.”

Year 11 Drama Incursion - Teresa Izzard

On Friday 17 June, our Year 11 Drama ATAR and General students engaged in two workshops facilitated by Teresa Izzard’s Feet First Collective. Students were introduced to Anne Bogart: ‘Ensemble Building & Physical Approaches to Devising The 9 Viewpoints’ and Rudolf Laban: ‘A Language for Generating & Describing Movement’. Our students thoroughly enjoyed these workshops and our College Arts team look forward to future partnerships with the Feet First Collective.
Thank you Teresa and Samuel!

Technology

Year 10 Mechatronics

Last week our Year 10 Mechatronics class assembled their very own working AM/FM Radio made from cardboard. Besides having fun making these radios, students also learned how to read circuitry layouts, solder delicate connections and apply technical manual instructions. They also became experts at debugging lost signal reception and powerpack issues.
Well done Year 10s!

Years 3 - 5 Digital Technologies

During Digital Technologies classes in the Junior School, students from Years 3 to 5 have been experimenting with Makey Makeys. Makey Makeys are a simple circuit which can be put together to control the iPad. We started using simple designs, we used play dough and paper clips to play the bongos. This week we have used paper and lead pencils to create a keyboard to play the piano and to draw pictures.

The students have been very creative and have experimented to see what else their new keyboard could control. By the end of the lesson there were experiments with Flappy Bird, Wack-a-Mole and Minecraft!

VET / Workplace Learning

Year 10 Courses and Careers Expo

On Friday 17 June, representatives from TAFE and five WA Universities presented the various pathways and opportunities on offer to our Year 10 students. Students learned about the VETDSS Programs (available in Year 11 and 12), Post-School VET Training, Apprenticeship Pathways and the various University Courses on offer. After the presentations, students were given the opportunity to ask questions and collect brochures and course guides from the representatives. The Career Expo was extremely valuable for our students and they thoroughly enjoyed the presentations provided.
We look forward to all of our students following their passion and working in their desired vocation in the future.

All games were close and our students played extremely well, improving with every game. They displayed fantastic sportsmanship and had a great day overall. Well done team! 👏

SSWA Peel Region Winter Carnival (Years 9 & 10)

On Wednesday 15 June and Thursday 16 June, our Year 9 & 10 students competed in the SSWA Peel Region Carnivals.
Our students represented the College in Netball, Touch Rugby, Basketball and Soccer. The Netball 'A' team and Boys Basketball 'A' & 'B' team all made the grand final but unfortunately lost the final match.
Students had a fantastic time overall, doing what they love and they did the College proud!

Outdoor Education

This week, our Year 9 Outdoor Education students went on an excursion to Rottnest Island. As part of the Semester long course, students have been learning basic navigation, cycling and fishing skills in classes and around the Rockingham area. They finally got the opportunity to put what they have learned to use!

Students cycled to Salmon Bay in wet conditions, but thankfully the sun shone through. Once they arrived, the sun came out and they even caught a herring! They had a lunch break at the settlement where they got to meet the local Quokkas for a selfie and had time for some more fishing off the Thomson Bay jetty. They caught one more fish before heading home on the ferry.

This Rottnest excursion will become a feature trip as part of the College's growing Outdoor Education program. Thank you to Mr Norris, Mr Scarterfield, Ms Stennent and Mr Gunther (Pre Service Teacher) for organising the day and giving students the opportunity to experience the great outdoors.

Sustainability

Our Green Team members did an amazing job running the Market Stall this week. We raised $119 which will go towards buying feed, hay and some mealworms as a treat for all our chickens. Thank you to everyone in our school community for supporting our Sustainability Stalls, we appreciate it.

This week during our Sustainability lessons the Pre-Primary students read the book “How Do You Make A Rainbow” after looking at the beautiful rainbows in our sky. They attended to their garden beds, watering, weeding and giving the plants worm wee to help the vegetables grow. The broad beans and snow peas are growing well, and some students enjoyed munching on them.

The Year Five students were busy collecting the leaves for the worm farms, adding coffee grounds to the compost bins and planting potatoes, garlic and kale seedlings. They also planted flowers to attract the beneficial bugs into our gardens and help our plants to grow.

The Year Four students read a few books about Native Bees and discussed the importance of bees in our garden.  As a group the students collected many different natural items to make a bee hotel to be placed in our gardens once completed.

Thank you so much to all the families for supporting the ‘Wonder Recycling Rewards Program.’ By collecting soft bread bags of any brand, we can earn reward points to redeem on sports equipment. Please collect your emptied bread bags and place them in the pink boxes at the entrance of the junior school or front office in the middle school.

The Year Three students were super stars at counting and weighing all the bread bags, we have received over 500 bags so far.

Let’s all start collecting; reducing our waste going to landfill and making a difference to our world.
