Want to know about the OLNA?
Some students are about to sit the OLNA. You may have heard about it, but are not sure what it means for your child.
OLNA stands for the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment. In order to demonstrate the required literacy and numeracy standards for the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), some students will be required to sit this assessment. The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (Authority) awards the WACE at the end of Year 12 to students who have met all the requirements. You can find more about the requirements on the Authority website at www.scsa.wa.edu.au under Years 11 and 12 > The WACE > WACE Requirements.
Some students prequalify for the literacy and numeracy requirement through their performance in the Year 9 NAPLAN test. We will inform you whether your child needs to the sit the OLNA. Students will have up to six opportunities before the end of Year 12 to meet the requirement.
The OLNA has three components—reading, writing and numeracy. The reading and numeracy components comprise 45 multiple‐choice questions; the writing component is an extended response of up to 600 words. Students are allowed 50 minutes for the reading and numeracy components and 60 minutes for the writing. The table below provides an overview of the components.
To prepare our students for the types of questions they can expect and to familiarise them with the online assessment platform, we provide access to practice and example tests on a secure website. The link to the secure website for the practice and example tests is available on the Authority website at www.scsa.wa.edu.au under Years 11 and 12 > Assessment > OLNA > Practice and Example Tests.
For students with disability, we have guidelines to help determine the appropriate adjustments for equal access. Information about disability adjustments is available on the Authority website under Years 11 and 12 > Assessment > Disability Adjustment Guidelines
Students who do not demonstrate the literacy and numeracy standard by the time they exit senior secondary schooling can apply to the Authority to re-sit the OLNA at any age.
If you want to know more, go to the Authority’s website and look under Years 11 and 12 > Assessment > OLNA. There you will find more information, answers to frequently asked questions and a brief video. You can also send questions to olna@scsa.wa.edu.au.

Mother Teresa’s Feast Day
On Wednesday 7 September, we came together as a whole College to celebrate St Mother Teresa's Feast day. The day started off with a series of feast day services, followed by a shared sausage sizzle lunch provided by the College. The overcast sky soon turned in to a beautiful sunny day for our afternoon fair!
Each year group and homeroom set up a stall or activity to raise money for charity. We had a fantastic variety of stalls including face painting, books and toy stalls, baked goods, lucky dips, wheelathon, mini golf and much more!
All monies received will be donated to the Missionaries of Charity, an organisation founded by Mother Teresa in 1950. We hope everyone had a fantastic day celebrating the life and canonisation of our Patron Saint, Mother Teresa!

Tea Towel Fundraiser
Make your child the star of the show with their adorable artwork printed in full colour on premium 100% white cotton tea towels. Not only practical and beautiful for the home but make great gifts!
If you would like to place an order, have your child do their artwork using the attached template. Use as many colours as you would like. Bold and bright works best (but don’t use glitter or highlighters – they do not print well). Collaged items can be used too but ensure you stick them down thoroughly.
Return the artwork flat (do not roll or fold) to Main reception. Don’t forget to order a few extras for family members and your keepsake box.
There is a sample tea towel (hanging in the Junior School information board to view).
Only $25 each

Sustainability News
Thank you so much to all the families for supporting the ‘Wonder Recycling Rewards Program.’ We have collected thousands of bread bags which will be turned into play equipment. You have all made a difference to our world by reducing our waste going to landfill.
The Year 1 students have been attending to our Butterfly Garden, adding some small native plants which the caterpillars love to eat. The Pre-primary students were using tweezers to plant some snow pea and bean seeds in their garden bed. The Kindy students had fun helping to plant and watering the yummy carrots, broad beans, potatoes and spinach growing in their garden beds.
Of course the chickens have been getting lots of love and attention from all the students. Factual information signs have been added to explain each breed of chicken including the egg colour they lay as the students have noticed the different coloured eggs we collect.
This month is Biodiversity Month where we celebrate all the different kinds of life in one area which work together in ecosystems to maintain balance and support life. While discussing this we found a beautiful visitor in the sustainability area this week… a motorbike frog!
On Tuesday 13 September, we will be having our last Market Stall for the Term. The Green Team will be selling freshly grown produce, worm wee, eggs, herbs in pots, apple slinkies, bees wax lunch wraps and more.
Do you love to recycle?
Recycle your unwanted electronic items here, for our children to use in their tinkering tables. Our creative areas would love any old dress making patterns, threads and tissue paper. Please place items in the red and green bins located in Junior and Secondary School kiss and drives. Thank you for your continued support!
Lions Recycle for Sight - Donation Bin
The Lions Organisation’s Recycle for Sight program sends around 450,000 pairs of glasses to developing countries every year! Over the 26 years that the Australian program has operated, they have delivered over 7 million pairs of refurbished quality spectacles to vulnerable people all over the world.
Help us by donating your old glasses so that people in developing countries can see the world. Simply place your old glasses in the yellow collection bin found in the main reception. Not only will you be helping those in disadvantaged circumstances, but you will also be helping the environment by giving your old spectacles a second life instead of going to landfill!
