YR 10 INDONESIAN MASTERCHEF

Year 10 Indonesian students were given a challenge to create an Indonesian cooking video, where they chose an Indonesian dish, cooked it from scratch and gave cooking instructions in Indonesian. Everyone did a fantastic job and cooked delicious dish. Enak sekali!

On Wednesday our Indonesian class went to the food room, to make some traditional Indonesian cuisine. We each picked the dish we wanted to make, my partner and I chose to make Beef Rendang. Beef Rendang is a dry beef curry that is slowly cooked until the beef is tender. When making the food we had a lot of fun learning about the different types of ingredients that Indonesian cuisine uses. I learnt about the main Indonesian dishes and the flavours they use. Overall the experience was a lot of fun and all the dishes we made tasted delicious. (Joselin B.)

For my cooking assessment, I chose to do Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice). I learned the name of the different ingredients, such as bawang putih (garlic), bawang merah (shallots) and cabe (red chillies). Making the sauce was fun, adding the shallots, garlic, chilies, sweet soy sauce and tomato paste, and so was watching the colours form when the rice was added. My favourite part of this assessment was learning how to serve the fried rice. Creating the arch rice, and adding little side decorations like cucumber, chilli and cabbage leafs. During this experience I felt like a real celebrity chef. I would love to do this assessment again, and hopefully I can do an Indonesian desert next time. (Chelsea L.)
