Move Up Day

It was Move Up Day on Wednesday in our Junior School. This was an opportunity for our current students to "move up" to their new classrooms and meet their new teachers. It was a wonderful, fun-filled morning! Now that our students are acquainted with their new teachers and classmates, they will have a smoother transition next year.

Year 9 Faith Enrichment Retreat

On Thursday 30 November, our Year 9 students embarked on a faith enrichment retreat aimed at deepening their spiritual connection. As they journeyed together, they engaged in prayer, reflection, and activities that encouraged them to contemplate their beliefs and values. Students formed bonds and friendships that reinforced the sense of unity that we cherish here at the College. This retreat was a transformative experience to help our students grow as future leaders and ambassadors in their community.

Kindy Orientation

In Week 7 we welcomed our 2024 Kindy students and their families for a Kindy orientation day. It was a great opportunity for the little ones to meet their new classmates and make connections through inquiry and play.

After their little ones settled in, parents and caregivers joined us for an information session, where we acknowledged our existing families and officially welcomed new families to our College community. We look forward to welcoming our 2024 students and families back to the College next year!

Year 7 Indonesian Cooking

This week Year 7 students had the opportunity to learn to cook Mie Goreng (Fried Noodle), one of the most popular Indonesian dishes. Mie goreng is often served in family gatherings and birthday celebrations in Indonesia as it symbolises longevity in Indonesian culture, reflecting the wish for a long and prosperous life. Students watched and participated in a demonstration on how to cook the dish and tasted it as well.

  • I enjoyed the cooking as now I know how to cook mie goreng and can cook it at home for my family (Lilly Kyle).

  • I love how we touched into Indonesian culture. It helps me to have a better understanding on Indonesian food and culture. I would like to see more of Indonesian food being cooked in future lessons (Maya Eddington).

  • I really enjoyed making mie goreng because it smells really nice, and I love noodles (Callum Connor).

  • I loved it! I think it’s very important to understand different cultures. Cooking and showing the class how it’s done is a perfect way to learn about the Indonesian culture (Matilda Oldroyd).

  • I enjoyed today's cooking lesson, and I would be glad to do it again. The flavour is very tasty, and it smells absolutely amazing (Samuel Durkee).

  • It was very interesting as I learned how to make a food that wasn’t a food I would normally make (Liyana Fahim).

Sustainability News

As we are coming to the end of the School year, there are many jobs the students are helping with in the Sustainability area. The Pre-Primary students are removing old plants and weeds from their garden beds and giving them to the chickens to eat while learning about reducing our waste going to landfill.

The Year 2 and Year 3 students have been having lots of fun separating the tiger worms from the worm castings while looking at the parts of the worm. The worm castings are then added to the vegetable gardens to add nutrients to the soil which will help our plants to grow.

This term, I worked with the Year 4 students on their inquiry unit, “Living things depend on each other and the environment to survive” The students had been caring for a chosen plant, following their care plant while monitoring its growth. The students chose a range of plants from vegetables, herbs, house plants and flowering plants to attract butterflies in their home gardens.

This term our Sustainability Education Program came second in the Quality Catholic Education (QCE) Awards. The QCE Awards recognise the programs and initiatives in Catholic schools across Western Australia that support the vision of providing Christ-centred, student focused engaged learning environments.

The Green Team will be having their last market stall on Tuesday 5 December selling our fresh produce, worm wee, eggs, plants and more. We are also selling raffle tickets for $2 which will be drawn on Wednesday 6 December. 1st Prize is a basket of sustainability items valued at over $300, the second prize is a picnic basket filled with sustainability items valued at over $250 and third prize is a living Christmas tree with decorations valued at $100. All the money raised will go back into running the Sustainability centre.
