Sacrament of Confirmation Mass

Last weekend, our College community joined together at St Teresa of Calcutta Parish to celebrate students taking part in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation is the sacrament by which we receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Through Confirmation, the Holy Spirit gives us the increased ability to practice our Catholic faith in every aspect of our lives and to witness Christ in every situation.

The anointing of the candidate is a sign of confirming the gift of the Spirit, and calling the candidates to use these gifts to become involved in the life and mission of the Catholic Church and community. We congratulate all students for participating in the Sacrament of Confirmation and we pray the Holy Spirit will empower our students in their own faith journeys

Year 10 Outdoor Education Camp

During Week 9, our Year 10 Outdoor Education (ODE) students participated in a 3 day camp. Our students experienced some cold and wet weather. Nevertheless, they braved the elements and enjoyed various activities such as hiking, kayaking, fishing and exploring the South West region. This was a fantastic opportunity for our ODE students to put their theory into practice and develop valuable lifelong skills along the way. Well done everyone!

Year 11 Outdoor Education Camp

During Week 10, our Year 11 Outdoor Education (ODE) students embarked on their 3 day camp. Over the 3 days, they hiked just under 40kms of the extensive Bibbulmun track, setting up camp along the way. This was a fantastic experience for our Year 11 students to help develop the skills of enquiry, critical thinking and reflection. This Outdoor Education camp helps to build resilience in our students as they have limited access to everyday amenities we take for granted. At the end of the camp, our Year 11 students (and accompanying staff) were looking forward to a hot shower, flushing toilets, food and seeing their families again.
A fantastic expedition all round - well done Year 11s!

Tea Towel Fundraiser

Make your child the star of the show with their adorable artwork printed in full colour on premium 100% white cotton tea towels. Not only practical and beautiful for the home but make great gifts!

If you would like to place an order, have your child do their artwork using the attached template. Use as many colours as you would like. Bold and bright works best (but don’t use glitter or highlighters – they do not print well). Collaged items can be used too but ensure you stick them down thoroughly.

Return the artwork flat (do not roll or fold) to Main reception. Don’t forget to order a few extras for family members and your keepsake box.

There is a sample tea towel (hanging in the Junior School information board to view).

Creative Arts Castaways Sculpture

This term, our Creative Arts team (Years 4, 5 and 6) have been busy creating a sculpture which will be displayed at the Castaways Sculpture Exhibition, on the Rockingham Foreshore. The project is titled 'Only 300!' and focuses on the plight of the declining little penguin colony on Penguin Island. This project has an emphasis on sustainability and is made with recycled, repurposed and reused items to create the artwork. Some of these items include Christmas ornaments, sewing patterns and plastic bottles.

Here you can see the design process as our students experimented with different products to produce the best results! You will be able to see the finished sculpture at the Castaways Sculpture Exhibition, from Saturday 22 October - Sunday 30 October 2022.

Year 9 & 10 Indonesian Excursion

On Wednesday 21 September 2022, Year 9 and 10 Indonesian classes went on an Indonesian Excursion. Their first stop was the Indonesian Consulate General in Perth. They were welcomed by Pak Dominggus, Vice-Consul for Information and Social-Culture, and two Consulate staff members, Pak Tohirin and Pak Ari. Pak Ari taught them how to play Angklung, a traditional musical instrument made from bamboo and originates from West Java in Indonesia. They also learnt a section of Tari Golek Tirta Kencana, which is a Central Javanese traditional dance. They really enjoyed both cultural activities. At the end of their visit, Pak Tohirin performed the dance for them and Year 9 students sang a rap song called ‘Baik-baik Saja’. Chloe Collins represented Mother Teresa Catholic College to deliver a thank you speech in Indonesian to the Indonesian Consulate General for warmly welcoming them and providing them with opportunities to learn more about Indonesian culture.

Take a look at what some of our students thought of the day:

“Our second stop was Dapur Van Java, an Indonesian restaurant in Victoria Park, where we had our lunch. As soon as we got off the bus, we could smell the delicious aroma of the food! Ibu Anna, the owner of the restaurant, welcomed us in Indonesian and we ordered our food and drink in Indonesian. We shared martabak telur for entrees and tried different dishes, such ayam goreng, iga bakar, mie goreng and nasi goreng, for lunch. For dessert, we had a variety of Indonesian traditional cakes, such as dadar gulung, klepon and kue lapis - all were enak sekali. Everything smelled and tasted delicious! The waiters were very friendly and kind to us and to other guests at the restaurant. All in all, today was a very enjoyable day and we are all very grateful for the experience.

- Madeleine, Beth, Kendall, Imogen, Isabelle, Saffi and Courtney

“We enjoyed the day, and it was especially interesting learning traditional dances and playing some music with some instruments from Indonesia. The food at the restaurant was quite extraordinary, and very, very spicy. It all tasted very good, and it was a great experience.”

- Will, Scott and Matthew

“I enjoyed learning more about the Indonesian culture; their dances, the instruments and how to play it, and the food. The dance performance was somewhat hypnotising, from the way the performer moved in an elegant, smooth, almost wave-like way. The instrument we learned was very interesting too and something I've never seen or heard of before. It was probably my second favourite thing to experience whilst on this trip. The first favourite of course, mine and most likely everyone else's, is the Indonesian food! I absolutely loved my Nasi Goreng Sate and Es Leci drink. I really would love to go there again some time with my family.”

- Sachiann

“Today was great! Everyone at the Indonesian Consulate and the restaurant were friendly and welcoming. We got to sing, dance and play Indonesian traditional musical instruments. The food was great and the service was too. I would highly recommend this trip to those looking to try something new.”

- Lewis
