Message from the Principal
Mr. Jay Sutton
At Mother Teresa Catholic College, we are dedicated to providing a faith-filled, inclusive, and high-quality education that nurtures the academic, spiritual, and personal growth of every student. As we continue to build on the strong foundations of our college, we invite you to share your insights, experiences, and hopes for the future.
We are currently developing a Vision for Learning that will guide the College in the coming years, ensuring that our students receive the best possible education in an environment that supports excellence, wellbeing, and Catholic values. As parents and caregivers, your voice is invaluable in this process.
To gain a deeper understanding of your perspectives, we encourage you to complete our Parent Feedback Survey. This survey will explore key areas including:
Catholic Identity and Mission – How we can continue to nurture faith and Gospel values.
Vision for Learning – The essential skills and qualities for your child’s success.
Culture of Learning – Ways to further enhance student engagement and achievement.
Communication & Community Partnerships – Strengthening our connection with families and the wider community.
Future Directions – Your aspirations for MTCC over the next 3 to 5 years.
How to Participate
All parents will receive a link to a survey next week which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Your feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the College’s strategic direction, ensuring that MTCC remains a place where students flourish academically, grow in faith, and develop into compassionate, capable individuals.
Thank you for your time, your partnership, and your commitment to our college community. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and working together to build an even stronger future for MTCC.

Supporting Defence Families: The Role of Our Defence School Mentor
Do you have a family member currently serving in the Australian Defence Force (ADF)? We understand that military life comes with unique challenges, especially for children transitioning between schools or coping with parental absences due to deployment.
That’s where our Defence School Mentor (DSM) comes in. The DSM Program is designed to support students from ADF families, helping them settle into their new school environment and providing guidance during times of change.
Our dedicated DSM, Mrs. Rachel Esler, is here to assist Defence students and their families, offering a friendly point of contact and additional support as needed.
If your family could benefit from this program, feel free to reach out at Rachel.esler@cewa.edu.au.

Health Screening for Children: Important Updates
Ensuring children's health and development is crucial for their well-being. Early screening for common conditions such as undescended testes, colour blindness, and scoliosis can help detect potential issues and provide timely intervention. Below, we outline important information on these conditions, how they may impact children, and where to seek support.
Undescended Testes & Colour Blindness
Screening for undescended testes is recommended for boys around 4-5 years old, as approximately 2-4% are born with this condition. In some cases, a testicle may later move up into the groin or abdomen due to uneven growth of its supporting cord. While not painful, undescended testes can increase the risk of fertility issues and testicular cancer, often requiring surgery between ages 5-10. Similarly, colour blindness, which mainly affects the ability to distinguish red and green, can impact school activities like drawing and sorting. Though it does not affect clarity of vision, early awareness is helpful for adapting learning materials.
For more details, visit the Raising Children Network and encourage self-checks for both conditions. If you have concerns, consult your GP, an optometrist, or Community Health Nurse, Wendy Darcy, at 9419 2266.
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that can be detected with a simple back examination. While the spine naturally has three curves when viewed from the side, it should appear straight from behind. If a sideways curve is present, scoliosis may be the cause. Early detection is crucial, as untreated scoliosis can impact posture and comfort.
For further information, refer to the Raising Children Network and check your child for signs as described. If you have concerns, contact your GP or Community Health Nurse, Wendy Darcy, at 9419 2266. Additional parenting, child health, and development resources are available through the Child and School Health resources page.

Sustainability News
Thank you to our wonderful families for supporting Waste-Free Wednesday! A waste-free lunch means no throwaway packaging, helping us reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills each day. The students are always excited to share their waste-free lunch boxes with me, proudly contributing to a cleaner environment.
This week in our sustainability lessons, we've been focusing on Clean Up Schools Day (February 28). Students have been learning about responsible waste disposal, resource recovery, their environmental footprint, and the consequences of littering. Some even conducted a waste audit to analyze their classroom waste, reinforcing the importance of being environmentally responsible citizens.
Our tiger worms in the worm farms are thriving on classroom crunch scraps, and Year 4 students have been busy creating T-charts to track what the worms can and can’t eat. Meanwhile, Year 6 students have engaged in thoughtful discussions, defining sustainability, understanding why caring for our environment matters, and brainstorming actionable ways to make a difference.
On the school grounds, our vegetable gardens are flourishing, sunflowers are in full bloom, and we’re excited to welcome our chickens back to school this Wednesday!
Thank you again for your ongoing support in fostering a more sustainable future!

Happy Mail
To foster a culture of positivity and encouragement among our K-2 students, we have introduced a special opportunity for them to celebrate their successes. By invitation from their teachers, students are welcomed to visit Mrs Johnston’s office, where they can share their personal achievements and positive behaviours in a supportive and individualised way. This initiative not only reinforces good behaviour but also builds students’ confidence and motivation to continue making positive choices. Take a look at two students who received some Happy Mail from Mrs Johnston, to take home and share with their families. Amazing efforts, Rudy, Grayson, Pia, Lucas, Evie, Elijah, Emma and River!

Year 8 Students Race to Victory Against Principal Sutton!
The Year 8 students had an exciting opportunity to test their gaming skills this Wednesday morning as they competed against Principal Sutton in a thrilling Mario Kart challenge.
Each Year 8 homeroom was represented by two skilled racers, eager to earn valuable homeroom points and claim bragging rights. Over the course of three action-packed rounds, the students showcased their impressive driving skills, strategic item usage, and lightning-fast reflexes.
Despite putting up a strong fight, Principal Sutton managed to secure victory in only one of the three rounds—leaving the students as the undisputed champions of the day! Their well-earned wins not only brought them glory but also valuable homeroom points for their teams.
A huge congratulations to all the participants for their fantastic sportsmanship and enthusiasm. We can’t wait for the highly anticipated rematch—perhaps Principal Sutton will be seeking redemption next time!
