The College and Parish communities are invited to celebrate our tenth year of Mother Teresa Catholic College at our special Feast Day Mass to be held at 9am on Wednesday 6 September on the Junior School Oval (weather permitting).

Also, on our Feast Day, from 1.15pm until 2.45pm you are invited to come to our ‘traditional’ Feast Day Mini-Fair -  an afternoon of fun and fundraising for all, prepared and organised  ‘By the Students, For the Students and About the Students’ in the grounds of our College.

Every year-level from Pre-Primary through to the secondary years, will present a stall or activity to be enjoyed by all our children and young people.  Parents, Carers and Parishioners are most welcome to share the joy of our students and staff celebrating the Feast of our patron Saint, Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

Madeleine King MP visits the College

On Wednesday 23 August, we were delighted to welcome Hon Madeleine King MP (Member for Brand, Minister for Northern Australia & Minister for Resources) to the College to meet with our Politics & Law ATAR students. Students had the opportunity for ‘question time’ where they asked a myriad of questions and gained a deeper understanding of Australia’s political landscape.

Topics included climate change, the accountability of the executive and Madeleine's journey from Shadow Minister to Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia. Madeleine also spoke about her experience in school and work as a lawyer and political adviser before entering politics. We thank Madeleine King for taking the time to visit and for sharing her experience and knowledge with our students. We hope they have been inspired to pursue a career in politics and law!

Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady

Tuesday 15 August was a special Feast Day in the Catholic Church where we celebrated Mary, Mother of God, being assumed - body and soul - into heaven at the end of her Earthly life. This is a holy day of obligation, which means we are asked to attend Mass to celebrate the Eucharist, and give thanks to Our Lady. Our community came together to celebrate the Feast Day with a beautiful service at St Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Baldivis.

Sacrament of Confirmation Mass

On Saturday 19 August, our College community joined together at St Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Baldivis to celebrate students taking part in the sacrament of confirmation. Confirmation is the sacrament by which we receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Through confirmation, the Holy Spirit gives us the increased ability to practice our Catholic faith in every aspect of our lives and to witness Christ in every situation. The anointing of the candidate is a sign of confirming the gift of the Spirit, and calling the candidates to use these gifts to become involved in the life and mission of the Catholic Church and community.

We congratulate all students for participating in the sacrament of confirmation and we pray the Holy Spirit will empower our students in their faith journeys!

Junior School Athletics Carnival

Last week we held our Junior School Interhouse Athletics Carnival, split over two days: Thursday (Pre-Primary to Year 2) and Friday (Year 3 to 6). Our students had a blast and gave it their all in races, relays, team games and other athletic events. Students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and encouragement for their peers. Thank you to the huge number of parents and supporters who cheered from the sidelines and even participated in our parent races. It was a fantastic two day celebration of athletics and we congratulate the champion house - KEP!

Indonesia’s Independence Day

On Thursday 17 August, Year 9 Indonesian students celebrated Indonesia’s Independence Day! They had a fantastic time celebrating the day during their Indonesian lesson.

Fun in Year 1

The Year 1 students have had a fabulous opportunity to learn in various ways over the past two weeks. We had the Constable Care Foundation visit to explore the subjects of road safety, warning signals our body may give us and our safety network, which linked with our Health and Protective Behaviours Programs. We then had the privilege of many parents and caregivers attending our ‘Belong’ Liturgy with Father Alexis.

On Wednesday 16 August, we went on a wonderful excursion to SciTech, which supports our Inquiry Unit ‘How does our Earth Work?’ Our Year 1 students loved going to the Planetarium Show and learning about the planets, stars, seasons, and weather in a very visual way, with some students commenting it felt like they were flying through space. Thank you to all our Year 1 Parent helpers who attended with us. We then finished on a high with doing our best in the Athletics Carnival!  Our Year 1s have thrived in all these activities and they should be congratulated.

From Our Kitchen to Yours: Student Creations

Our Food Technology students have been cooking up a storm in the kitchen! They would love to share some of their delicious student-approved recipes with our community. Try your hand at this Crème Brûlée recipe, as made by our Year 12 Food Science Technology Students.

Crème Brûlée

Ingredients:

  • 300ml thickened heavy cream

  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste

  • 3 egg yolks

  • 1/4 cup caster sugar

Method:

Step 1- Preheat oven to 150°C/130°C fan-forced. Place a folded tea-towel in base of a roasting pan. Place ramekin dishes in pan.

Step 2- Place cream and vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally (don't boil), for 8 to 10 minutes or until just simmering.

Step 3- Meanwhile, whisk egg yolks and caster sugar together in a heatproof bowl. Gradually whisk in cream mixture until combined. Strain mixture into a heatproof jug. Pour into dishes. Add boiling water to pan until halfway up sides of dishes.

Step 4- Bake for 35 minutes or until almost set (mixture will wobble slightly). Remove dishes from pan. Set aside for 30 minutes to cool. Cover. Refrigerate overnight.

Step 5- Preheat grill on high. Place a wet tea-towel in pan. Place dishes on top. Sprinkle brûlées with caster sugar. Arrange ice cubes around dishes to prevent custard overcooking. Grill for 5 minutes or until sugar starts to melt. Set aside for 5 minutes. Serve.  (Or use a blow torch)

Enjoy! Keep an eye out for more student-approved recipes.

Year 6 School Slam Series Basketball

On Wednesday 16 August, teams of Year 6 students played in the Mandurah School Slam Series at the Mandurah ARC. Our girls team played their hearts out and improved their performance and knowledge, but unfortunately didn’t come away with a win this time.

Our boys team went undefeated the whole day and won the grand final! All students should be commended on their teamwork. Everyone did their bit to bring the shield to MTCC. A big thank you to their amazing coach Mrs Stennett, and to Miss Fernandes for organising this opportunity for our students. Go MTCC!
