2023 College Car Park Arrangements
Just a reminder about Car Park and set down requirements in our College Car park
In the mornings:
Parents of all students are encouraged to continue to use the set down areas in the College. These areas are in shown in the map attached for reference. No vehicles are to be left unattended in any of the set down areas, they are simply for dropping off or picking up students only. Those who wish to walk their child/children to school are asked to arrive between 8.20am and 8.30am. Junior School parents are asked to then ‘KISS & GO’ outside the Junior School classrooms. No Junior School students should be arriving at School BEFORE 8.15am. Those families that need to drop off students prior to 8.15 am should book their child/children into OSH.
In the afternoons:
All College students are to be collected between 3pm to 3.20pm unless students are attending an after-school activity with prior consent. Families who wish to collect their Junior child/children personally, must do so via the main entrance to the Junior School. Families arriving before 2.55pm must wait outside the Wellness Centre building. Families who wish to collect their Secondary child/children personally must do so at the pedestrian entrance to the Secondary School near the flagpoles.
Families are asked not to park their vehicles in any of the set down only bays, if you are parked in these bays you will be asked to drive around or park until your child/children are ready to be collected. Please note any Junior School student not collected by 3.20pm will be taken to College Administration. We also ask that all Parents and Caregivers observe the traffic flow signs in the Car Park at all times and do not drive against the flow of traffic. All traffic leaving the College grounds are required to turn left into Eighty Road and head in a Northerly direction. Those wishing to travel South are asked to avoid re-joining traffic on Eighty Road heading towards the notorious corner at Sixty-Eight Road and travel an alternative route. While this may add a few minutes to your trip, this will not only be safer but also assist with congestion on Eighty Road.
Please be mindful when parking in the surrounding residential estates as there has been an increase in complaints received both at the College and to the City of Rockingham Council with regards to illegal and discourteous parking. We have been informed from the City of Rockingham that there will be rangers tasked to the area and infringement notices will be issued. Please do not park on private property, please do not block driveways or park on peoples’s verges. We ask that you are courteous to your fellow drivers and College staff. Road rage, foul language, aggressive driving and behaviour will not be tolerated on College grounds.
We appreciate your ongoing understanding and support.
Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation
On Tuesday 1 August, our Year 6 students participated in their Confirmation retreat at the Parish. The purpose of the retreat is to prepare our students for the Sacrament of Confirmation by deepening their understanding of the faith, strengthening their relationship with God, and preparing them spiritually, mentally, and emotionally for the Sacrament.
Our College community will join together to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday 19 August. We continue to hold our students in our thoughts and prayers as they embark on a lifelong journey of faith and discipleship.

Events
Secondary Interhouse Athletics Carnival
The 2023 Secondary Interhouse Athletics Carnival was the first time in the College 10 year history where we competed with students spanning across Years 7-12.
With fantastic weather for the day, we started with Year 7-9 students completing their track events in the morning while Year 10-12 students competed in their field events over at Peckham Reserve, with a break in between before swapping over.
The competition was fierce with some fantastic performances over both track and field events. As a Catholic School that promotes ‘Making Jesus Real’, our staff and students showed the spirit of Jesus by being Welcoming, Encouraging, Thankful, Inclusive and Enthusiastic.
This was most evident in the student 4x100m relay and the final event of the day, the staff 4x100m relays, that was won by the Maths team due to the ‘shortcut’ Mr Scarterfield took, which led to the disqualification of the HPE team! After these events, the presentations concluded what was an incredibly successful day.

Book Week 2023
The College was buzzing last week as students and staff participated in our annual Book Week Parade. We were blown away with the level of creativity and imagination poured into some of these costumes! As the parade wrapped up, our hearts were filled with gratitude and pride for our College community's love of literature. We extend our deepest appreciation to all the parents and caregivers who contributed to the amazing costumes and made this parade a roaring success!
We would like to thank Mrs Schembri and Mrs Pavletich for organising our week-long Book Week extravaganza, which included a variety of engaging activities to celebrate the power of books and the joy of reading.
Our Lighthouse students read to Pre-Primary Djiripin (PPD) students as part of the Book Week activities. These students did a fantastic job of entertaining the little ones with their storytelling skills. Our teachers were so impressed that they decided the students would help out every second week in Pre-Primary for one period!
The students who read to PPD were:
Fanella Tufaanatu-Niuia
Morgan Hawkins
Riley van Zyl
Taj Perso
Spencer Mandy
Australian Mathematics Competition
On Thursday 3 August, students from Years 3 - 10 participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC). First run in 1978, the AMC is Australia’s longest running, largest and most well-known maths competition for School students. The competition consists of 30 questions and is completed by thousands of students from both Australia and New Zealand. The competition ran smoothly thanks to the excellent coordination by Mr Fassom, Mr Mitchell and Mr Back. We look forward to seeing our results when the scores are released later this year. Well done everyone!
Girls in Engineering
On Wednesday 2 August, a group of Year 9 students visited the University of Western Australia. The students were invited to participate in some STEM-based challenges conducted by experts from OceanWorks, Woodside Energy and the UWA Girls in Engineering outreach program.
The first challenge required the students to participate in a problem-solving workshop focusing on examining what the current energy demands are in each state of Australia and how each state meets their energy needs. Students were challenged to propose cost effective and sustainable ways to meet those energy needs while reducing the amount of emissions being produced.
The following workshop was conducted by experts from the Electrical and Electronic Engineers of Western Australia (EEEWA). Students were given the task to construct electrical circuits via breadboarding. The excursion concluded with a presentation from the Senior Sustainability Consultant from Cundall Engineering. The engaging presentation outlined the climate change issues which are brought upon by urban construction, explained the environmentally friendly designs which aim to decarbonise a building, as well as summarising the methods in construction used to optimise the use of resources to lower the carbon footprint.
This was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 9 students and we hope they have been inspired by this experience!

We are thrilled to bring you the latest news on our College's remarkable journey at The Catholic Performing Arts Festival (CPAF) this year. Our students have been leaving an indelible mark on the festival, showcasing their talents and dedication in various categories.
Vocal Solos: A Resounding Triumph Our students' vocal prowess shone brightly on the grand stage of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. The vocal solos left an indelible impression on the esteemed adjudicator, Lisa Harper-Brown. With comments like "A compelling performance," "Performed with aplomb," and "What a delight," it's clear that our students' dedication and hard work truly paid off. Their harmonious voices resonated with the audience, leaving them captivated and moved.
Lyrical Dance: Elegance in Motion The lyrical dance segment proved to be another testament to the talent and dedication of our students. Ruth Bott, the CPAF Adjudicator, was in awe of our students' "reverent, contemporary movement and the quality of [their] performance." Our senior dance students truly mesmerized the audience with their graceful expressions and flawless execution. Their performance not only entertained but also inspired all those fortunate enough to witness their artistry.
Bible Readings: A Sacred Contribution In the spirit of unity and faith, Mother Teresa Catholic College participated in the Bible Readings section, bringing spiritual depth to the festival. Our students' delivery of readings from the Bible was marked by confidence and clarity, their voices resonating through the congregation. Their heartfelt recitations set the tone for this year's Catholic Performing Arts Festival celebration, infusing it with a sense of sacredness and devotion.
A Heartfelt Thank You We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the students and staff who have participated in the festival. Your dedication, passion, and commitment to excellence have brought pride and honour to our College. Your performances have not only enriched the festival but have also served as a source of inspiration for all who attended. As we continue on this artistic journey, let us remember that every note sung, every movement danced, and every word spoken carries the essence of our College's spirit and values. We eagerly await the upcoming events of the festival, and we are confident that our students will continue to shine brightly in all their artistic endeavours.

SSWA Peel-Harbour Year 9 Basketball Carnival
On Monday 31 July, our student athletes competed in the SSWA Peel-Harbour Carnival hosted at Mike Barnett Stadium. Both teams nominated for the College played valiantly and displayed excellent sportsmanship. Our girls team, coached by Ms Fernandes (the youngest team entered in the tournament comprising of athletes from Year 7 to 9), ended with no wins for the day but showed hard work, dedication and passion with every game they played.
Our boys team (comprised of excellent Year 8 and 9 players), coached by Mr Relleno, ended up winning the entire competition, beating Rockingham SHS and their Basketball Specialist Program Squad in the Grand Final. We now qualify for the SSWA South of the River Knockout Carnival, giving our school the opportunity to be crowned best in the South Metropolitan area! Both teams showed promise and potential, hopefully continuing their winning ways in the upcoming carnivals, creating a culture of success in athletic endeavours for Mother Teresa Catholic College.

Defence Club News
Our Defence School Mentor (DSM) Program provides support to students of Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families, particularly during their transition in and out of a school on posting or during parental absences due to deployment. These students are supported by our Defence School Mentor, Mrs Esler, and have many opportunities to connect with other members of Defence Club throughout the year.
On Wednesday 9 August, Junior School Defence Club students were treated to a visit from Strength Heroes Resilience Education. Students learnt about where big feelings come from and how to regulate big emotions. Their creativity shone through when creating loose parts lizards to represent their lizard brain and machine creations to challenge and change unhelpful thoughts.
In Week 3, Secondary Defence Club students enjoyed getting together for a pizza lunch. This was a great opportunity for students across all Secondary year levels to mingle and build meaningful relationships with one another.
