Diving into Magic: ‘Disney’s The Little Mermaid' Production

The College is thrilled to share the resounding success of the recent College production of Disney's The Little Mermaid at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. This underwater extravaganza left audiences enchanted and filled with praise for the talented cast and dedicated crew behind this magical journey beneath the waves.

One audience member expressed, "I had the privilege of attending your production, ‘The Little Mermaid’. It was absolutely fantastic. Congratulations to everyone involved. The costumes just brilliant. In fact, I couldn’t fault anything. It’s one of the best high school productions I’ve ever seen."

Such enthusiastic feedback highlights the dedication and excellence that went into crafting this unforgettable experience. Another attendee shared, "I was brought to tears more than once. The quality of the production is an absolute credit to all involved."

One of the standout performances hailed by attendees was Georgia Carter’s portrayal of Ariel, with a voice that enchanted the audience and brought the beloved character to life on stage. Ava-Addison Cheffins’ rendition of Ursula was equally praised for its depth and believability. She was well supported by Maya Eddington and Lucas Conway as Flotsam and Jetsam. Triton was expertly played by Harry Deacon, portraying the problems of parenthood to perfection. Kaelan Battersby as Sebastian was a high-spirited dynamo, while Year 8 student Payton Medcalf made a spectacular debut as an absolutely gorgeous Flounder. Lachlan Weeks was an audience favourite as an over-the-top, over-enthusiastic and loveable Scuttle. William Weeks charmed as Prince Eric, Liam Conroy was an efficiently efficient Grimsby and Ben Semler fires up a delicious cameo as Chef Louis.

Another audience member remarked, "The scenery, costumes, dancers, singers were all unbelievable. I cannot praise the show enough." This sentiment echoes that of many who were captivated by the seamless blend of music, choreography, and visual splendour that characterised this production. The dedication and hard work of everyone involved was evident in every aspect of the show, from the intricate costumes to the captivating set design and the stellar performances that transported audiences to a world of magic and wonder.

As we reflect on the success of ‘The Little Mermaid’, we eagerly anticipate the next College production. With such a talented team at the helm, there's no doubt that future performances will continue to dazzle and inspire audiences of all ages. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making ‘The Little Mermaid’ a resounding success. Your passion and creativity have truly made waves in the world of theatre.

Book Club was also delivered last Term so we hope students enjoyed reading their awesome books over the Easter school holidays and thank you to parents and carers for your ongoing support. Issue 3 for Book Club has been distributed with some amazing deals on books so be sure to get your orders in through Loop before 6th May!

Information Technology (IT) News

In 2024 your IT Department is:

Mr Johnny Ho - Team Leader of Information Technologies

Mr Johnny Ho joined the College in 2021 as the leader of the IT team. He has 15 years of experience in Catholic Education in Western Australia in various roles. Johnny is also a Digital Integrator, who helps teachers at the College use iPads to improve student learning. He teaches Digital Technologies to our Middle School students, covering topics like Augmented Reality, Coding and Robotics. In 2023, Johnny was welcomed into the Apple Distinguished Educator community as recognition of his outstanding work in this field.

Why did you decide to join our College community?
I heard great things about the Staff and Students were doing here at the College especially with the innovative use of iPads in the classroom for creativity and collaboration. I was also excited by the opportunity to work in a brand new School where everything needed to be set up from scratch.

What do you love most about working at the College?
The students!  they are welcoming, challenging, constantly questioning and seeking answers. I love it when they get creative with the skills that we explore in our classes. The staff are some of the most resilient, adaptable and friendliest people I have ever met. Also I work with a high performing IT team.

Mr Anthony Damiano - Systems Administrator

Mr Anthony Damiano is the Systems Administrator at the College, a position he was appointed to in 2022. He joined the College in 2020 as an IT Technician, bringing his expertise and experience from his previous role at Corpus Christi College. Anthony holds an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and is a proud graduate of the CEWA system. He is passionate about providing IT solutions and support to the College community.

Why did you decide to join our College community?
I was ready for a new challenge and I was really interested in the opportunity to create things from scratch. In my previous role, I often had to maintain or improve what was already there. Here at the College, we have the opportunity to build solutions from the ground up.

What do you love most about working at the College?
Working with the Appleseeds student extra curricular group is a rewarding experience for me, as the students inspire me to enhance my learning skills. Also I really like the opportunity to build things from scratch because the College is so new.

Mr Jared Back - IT Team Member

A proud graduate of the CEWA education system, Mr. Jared Back joined the College in 2020 through the recommendation of several long-term staff members. He has demonstrated hard work and perseverance as he initially began with work experience, then moved to a part-time role in 2021 while studying, and finally to a full-time role in 2022 after completing his studies. When he is not at the College, he enjoys playing cricket, a sport he is passionate about and has competed in at various levels.

Why did you decide to join our College community?
I decided to become a member of the IT team after a rewarding time with my work experience in 2020. The positive atmosphere, coupled with the engaging challenges, resonated with my professional interests. When offered a part-time position, I accepted the opportunity enthusiastically.

What do you love most about working at the College?
What I love most about working at the College is the dynamic work environment that offers a fantastic variety of tasks. Every day presents new challenges, keeping me engaged and motivated. The interaction with students adds a special dimension to my work, as their enthusiasm and curiosity create a vibrant atmosphere.

Mr Samuel Tetlaw - IT Team Member

Sam has worked on various projects, ranging from social media content to short films. He is skilled in using different software and platforms to create engaging and high-quality content for range of scenarios.

Why did you decide to join our College community?
I was drawn to joining the College's IT team due to my genuine passion for working with students. I was also excited by a role where I could blend my love for technology and problem solving with the rewarding experience of supporting the students' education.

What do you love most about working at the College?
Although I have only been here for a short time, I've felt welcomed and appreciated by the entire College community since day one! Each day brings new learning opportunities, and I've thoroughly enjoyed working with my fellow team members. My favourite thing about working at College is helping the students!

Mr Paul O’Brien - IT Team Member

Mr. Paul O’Brien is a recent addition to the College’s IT team, having joined in April of 2023. He started his career as a microbiologist, but later switched to the IT industry with a focus on the technical field. Before joining the College, he managed the service department of an IT provider that catered exclusively to education and corporate customers. Paul brings his diverse and extensive experience to the College IT team.

Why did you decide to join our College community?
I joined the College to expand my software skills and learn about remote device (iPad) management systems, which I find very interesting. I also wanted to work in the education sector and make a positive impact. The role at MTCC was the perfect fit for me, as it combined both my professional and personal goals.

What do you love most about working at the College?
Coming to work is always a joy for me, even on Monday mornings! I appreciate the support and camaraderie of my immediate colleagues. I love assisting people with their IT issues, especially the Junior School students who have the most creative excuses for their iPad problems. I never run out of tasks to do, whether it is helping at the Helpdesk or completing back office work. And I also have some luck here - I won four tins of beans in a raffle at the last feast day!

For any IT-related assistance at the College, feel free to reach out to us. You can contact us by email at it@motherteresa.wa.edu.au or by phone at 9591 7151.
